Slow-made clothing crafted to last for years, not seasons.
Our Story
OrSlow was founded in 2005 by Ichiro Nakatsu in Kobe, Japan, with a simple belief: clothing should be made to last—not replaced.
Inspired by a frustration with disposable fashion and short-lived trends, Nakatsu created OrSlow to celebrate traditional craftsmanship, timeless design, and garments that improve with age. Every piece reflects a slower, more intentional approach to clothing.
Today, OrSlow is recognized around the world for authentic, heritage-inspired apparel built for long-term wear.
Our Philosophy: Slow-Made Clothing
In a world driven by fast fashion, OrSlow chooses a different path.
We produce smaller collections with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring each garment meets the highest standards of quality and durability.
What “slow-made” means to us:
Quality Over Quantity
We would rather produce 100 exceptional garments than 10,000 forgettable ones.
Timeless Design
Our collections are created to remain relevant season after season, year after year.
Built to Last
With proper care, OrSlow garments are designed to endure for years—reducing waste while delivering lasting value.
We do not follow trends. We create clothing meant to stay in your wardrobe for decades.
Our Inspiration
Every OrSlow piece draws inspiration from vintage workwear, military uniforms, and classic American denim spanning the 1940s through the 1970s.
Our influences include:
- 1940s U.S. Navy deck jackets and sailor pants
- 1950s factory workwear and railroad overalls
- 1960s classic denim construction and silhouettes
- Military fatigue pants and field jackets
We study original vintage garments and reinterpret them through period-inspired fabrics, patterns, and construction methods to create clothing that feels truly authentic.
How We Make It
Made in Japan
All OrSlow products are manufactured in Japan, primarily through small-scale production partners known for textile expertise and exceptional garment craftsmanship.
Traditional Techniques
- Selvedge denim woven on vintage shuttle looms
- Natural indigo dyeing for authentic aging and color depth
- Chain-stitch hemming using traditional machinery
- Hand-finished details throughout production
Premium Materials
- High-quality Japanese and American cotton
- Durable twill, canvas, and chambray fabrics
- Long-lasting hardware and trims
- Natural materials designed to age beautifully
Each garment takes significantly longer to produce than mass-market alternatives—and that is intentional.

Why Natural Aging Matters
OrSlow garments are designed to evolve with wear.

- Fabrics becoming softer and more comfortable
- Natural wear creating character and individuality
- Colors developing greater depth and richness
This transformation is not a flaw—it is part of the experience.
Our Commitment to Responsibility
Slow production is about more than quality. It reflects respect—for craftsmanship, materials, and longevity.
Our Priorities
- Responsible manufacturing practices
- Reduced waste through smaller production runs
- Long-lasting garments over disposable consumption
- Repairable construction to extend product life
We believe the most sustainable garment is one that continues to be worn.
